As a projector, the Panasonic PT AE500E combines LCD technology with a resolution of HDTV 1280 x 720, and is additionally specified with 850 ANSI lumens and a contrast of 1300:1. The manufacturer rates the durability of the included lamp at 5000 hours – mathematically sufficient for 6.8 years based on two hours of use per day. Regarding projection size, the value of 850 ANSI lumens allows for an image width of up to 296 cm in darkened environments. In rooms with ambient light, the image width should be correspondingly reduced to a maximum of 197 cm. In the specifications, the operating noise is listed at a mere 27 decibels, indicating very quiet cooling. Since entering the market in 2003, production has been discontinued; the manufacturer no longer actively offers the model. As an archive device, the projector remains highly relevant in our database.

I bought the projector a few days ago for less than 100 € in the bay and have to say: the part still does a very good job even more than 10 years after its release. If you don‘t necessarily need 3D and Full HD, it‘s more than enough to get you started. I‘ve only watched normal DVDs so far (without a real screen) and that alone is pretty impressive. The fan is very quiet in low mode. In high mode, however, you can hear it quite well (on my device) when watching quiet movies. The fan noise isn‘t an issue at all when there‘s a lot of action and a little distance from the device. If you connect the PC, you have to set the native resolution of the projector on the computer side, otherwise you will only see a blue screen. I had problems with that at first. Otherwise a great device at a low price.

Still top even in 2012!!!
There are already 1000 better projectors with full HD etc.
But none are like this one. I would only buy Panasonic projectors!
PS. You get better colors when you use YUV.
With DVI, the colors are paler.

Great device
It‘s a really great device, now my lamp is broken, but I think it‘s worth buying a new one. Oh yes, for those who don‘t know, you can connect HDMI devices by using a DVI to HDMI adapter and then changing the edit function in the projector from 2 to 1 or from 1 to 2, and you have a sharp picture with T-Home or the PS3.

can still keep up with newer devices!
I have found that my approx. 5 year old Panasonic PT AE500E can still keep up with the newer devices with HD Ready resolution (720P,1080i) in terms of picture sharpness, colors and fan noise, provided you have a good screen and you darken the room sufficiently!

Home theater projector at its finest.
The LCD projector PT-AE500E has - as befits a home theater projector - a powerful 16:9 LCD chip with a resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels. This makes it fully HDTV-compatible and, thanks to New Smooth Screen technology, a contrast ratio of 1300:1 and a brightness of 850 ANSI lumens, it ensures an extremely sharp and clear image that leaves nothing to be desired in this price range. Modern TV broadcasts also reach a completely new level of quality in this way. Numerous connection options (DVI-D input, Scart connection, YUV component input, etc.) allow for all video signal connection variants. The horizontal and vertical trapezoidal correction counteracts unwanted distortions. This means that the Panasonic PT-AE500E can be positioned anywhere in the room with maximum flexibility. The pleasure of the appealing design of the Panasonic PT-AE500 is rounded off by a moderate operating noise of only 27 dB (normal mode), which can almost be described as noiseless. www.koelnmedien.de
