With the Play Big IN78EX, InFocus offers a Laser-DLP projector that features 1000 ANSI lumens, a contrast of 3500:1 and a resolution of HDTV 1280 x 720. According to InFocus, the lamp has a durability of 3000 hours. Regarding projection size, the value of 1000 ANSI lumens allows for an image width of up to 321 cm in darkened environments. In rooms with ambient light, the image width should be correspondingly reduced to a maximum of 214 cm. Regarding signal processing, the model is compatible with incoming 1080P content. This model dates back to 2006 and is no longer part of InFocus's current product range. Important maintenance note: It is no longer possible to procure replacement lamps for this model.

I‘ve been using an IN78 for almost 150 hours. It hangs from the ceiling and does its job without a murmur. The fan noise can only be heard slightly when there‘s dead silence in the movie, otherwise not and I‘m sitting more or less directly underneath it.
The HD DVD and BD playback is impeccable for the price paid, which should not be ignored, because the IN 78 offers a very good picture, but is not a contrast miracle. However, the black reproduction is exemplary in almost every situation thanks to DLP technology (DC-3 chip). But ... somehow the picture is always a little too bright. Changing the gamma value sometimes helps. An automatic or manual iris would perhaps have been a useful detail, which the IN 78 unfortunately does not have. My recommendation for the picture setting is to keep the factory setting, and then of course you always want a sharp picture, but unfortunately the IN 78 doesn‘t have a stepless solution for this, only sharpness levels. If you increase the sharpness, the picture on some disks becomes really sharper but unfortunately also worse (e.g. stronger dithering). Very well-mastered HD or BD disks can tolerate the position sharpener better, but then the HD experience is also perfect. But then there is no longer any question of a really good picture. Of course, it also depends on the player. Solution: simply move 1.5 m further away from the screen, the effect is amazing. Playing HD TV material brings the IN 78 to life in almost the same way as playing BD or HD players. In my opinion, the IN 78 is a good HD-ready projector, but it never had much of a chance because FullHD simply became established too quickly. Many people don‘t even notice the quality gains, especially in the lower FullHD price segment.
It‘s also worth mentioning that you can install the firmware yourself. All you have to do is download a program from infocus.com and get an adapter cable, and the update itself is child‘s play.
